Hackney GIving

Why Hackney Giving exists

The population of Hackney is fast growing: official projections suggest that by 2026, there will be 50% more people living in the borough than there were in 1999.   Alongside this growth have been changes in who lives here, with wealthier people and young professionals choosing to make Hackney their home.  These changes are highly visible and mask that many people living in Hackney face difficulty in their daily lives.

The borough’s grassroots voluntary and community sector organisations are a vital safety net: for example, they help to combat isolation among older people, support people into work and encourage young people to participate fully in society.  Hackney Giving has been relaunched in 2020 to provide a simple way for givers to channel funding, skills and time to Hackney’s smaller voluntary and community groups to benefit people in need in Hackney.
