The funding for the project enabled MRS Independent Living to provide vital support to vulnerable people, such as benefits information, finding suitable housing and dealing with bills.

The Side By Side project combines general advice, informal advocacy and casework, delivered by trained staff and volunteers, to help people experiencing complex and multiple challenges navigate the system.

MRS Independent Living’s work is currently focused on service users of Gillett Square in Dalston, Hackney, and prioritises people from communities that have been excluded from mainstream support.

Their staff carried out extensive outreach in the community and invest time in building trusting relationships with the vulnerable people they support. Referrals to the project are generated through outreach in Gillett Square or word-of-mouth only and they do not accept external referrals from professionals or self-referrals from people who are not connected to the Gillett Square community.
