Help Turkish, Kurdish and Syrian people in Hackney

Many Turkish, Kurdish and Syrian people who live in Hackney have been directly affected by the recent earthquake. Your donation can support these communities as they come to terms with the effects of the disaster.

At a meeting of Hackney Refugee Forum in February, we heard from many of the voluntary and community sector groups that work within these communities, and they made the wider impact of the earthquake clear. As one participant put it, “there is a great need here in our local areas for people who have lost their loved ones, relatives, friends in the earthquake. Those who have been providing a support to the aid efforts are also mentally worn out together with their children who have had to witness the devastation.”

Hackney Giving is launching a fundraising appeal to support local Turkish, Kurdish and Syrian residents.

Most members of London’s migrant Turkish and Kurdish communities have direct links with the region where the earthquake took place. There is very little number of people who are not directly impacted.

Hackney Giving will pool donations to the appeal to make grants to local Turkish, Kurdish and refugee not-for-profit community organisations so that they can support their communities. Funding will be used to provide wellbeing and bereavement support for children, young people and adults. Donations will also be used to help residents financially impacted by the earthquake.

We are aiming to raise £10,000. £4,400 has already been provided by NAVCA, the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action.  To donate online and help support Turkish, Kurdish and Syrian communities in Hackney, please follow the link below.
