The benefits of volunteering are widely recognised: it connects you to the community around you, is an opportunity to “give back” and builds confidence as well as being a great way to meet people and have fun.

Get involved: summer 2024 volunteer opportunity

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us to decide where to allocate funding for street parties and other events that bring people together and reduce isolation. This is the first time that we have used a participatory grant-making approach and involved a group of residents. It’s an opportunity to help us develop a new way of working, giving residents more of a say over how charity funding is spent.

We are able to fund up to five events in summer 2024 that will build community and reduce isolation, as well as being great fun. Please help us choose the best events to do that!

For this role, you will need to be able to:

  • Come to a briefing in Dalston on one of 18 or 19 June 2024.
  • Read all applications for funding and do an initial assessment of them on your own.
  • Attend a decision-making meeting on 2 July 2024, during which the group will discuss all applications and reach an agreement on which ones to fund.

If you’re interested in the role, please contact Sarah on sarah@hackneygiving.org.uk or register your interest with Volunteer Centre Hackney via https://www.vcconnectsystem.org.uk/HackneyVMS2/VolunteerOpportunities/DetailsForSearch/4933

Other ways to volunteer

There are other ways to support Hackney Giving as a volunteer. Could you take photographs of the borough looking its best for use in our publicity, write up case studies of some of our funded groups, or help us to make links with Hackney’s business community?
