Hackney Giving sets up endowment fund following generous donation

We are extremely pleased to announce that a local social enterprise has recently chosen to give Hackney Giving the balance of its funds.

City and Hackney Urgent Healthcare Social Enterprise (CHUHSE) supported people living in the area until the services it delivered were taken in-house by the NHS. As an organisation that operated on a not-for-profit basis, CHUHSE needed to pass its closing balance to an organisation with similar aims and objectives and we were delighted to be chosen to receive the funds. CHUHSE’s directors recognised our knowledge of charities in the area and were impressed by our delivery model of grants to a wide range of community groups.

The donation was over £100,000 and we worked with CHUHSE to decide how to use the money. Together, we agreed to invest it as a lasting endowment. This donation was the largest to Hackney Giving since we relaunched in 2020 and allowed us to establish the endowment.

Donations to Hackney Giving are now being split so that 13 pence in every pound given is added to the endowment fund. By topping up the capital that is invested, we aim to grow the interest generated, and increase the benefits of the funding.

Programme manager Sarah Watson said: “We are really grateful to CHUHSE for this donation. By investing it as an endowment, it will provide an ongoing source of funding for distribution in the future, meaning that it will make a difference to communities locally for many years to come.”
