The cost of living in the UK is continuing to increase, and with it, financial difficulties for many people. Higher prices for goods and utility bills are hitting many people hard and meaning that some are going without essential items or food.
“Money is tight, and times are hard.” – service user on a previous food project funded by Hackney Giving
Thanks to donations from individuals and businesses, in October 2022, Hackney Giving was able to make three grants of £5,000 each to charities that are supporting people locally as prices increase. We have contributed to the cost of Shepherdfold Ministry’s after school club for children and young people, increased provision at Hackney Cypriot Association’s lunch club for older residents and funded Ozer Umagen to buy food for families who are struggling.
But there is still more to do! Although we are working with the Council to distribute funding on their behalf, we know that the need in Hackney and the City of London is growing and the more we raise, the more people we can support.
We are appealing to individuals and businesses who are able to give, so that together, we can make things better for our neighbours.
The Hackney Giving Cost of Living appeal is open: please donate now.
